Sea of Unknowing, Margaret O'Brien, 23th September - 29th October 2005.
Pallas Heights, Number 30 Sean Tracey House, Buckingham Street, D1.
Pallas Heights is delighted to present Sea of Unknowing, an exhibition of
new work by Margaret O'Brien. This exhibition continues the artist's
exploration into psychological spaces that exist between people, and
between our private / public persona. The work touches on issues such
as isolation and alienation, claustrophobia, agoraphobia, insecurity,
tension and anticipation.O'Brien makes site-specific installations, location being fundamental
to her concerns. She uses installation as a material through which the
emotive experience of a space is manipulated to create a disorientating
psychological environment. The spaces she interferes with become highly
sensory experiences. Sea of Unknowing includes works that exploit the
existing architecture of the space through the location of found objects
in multiples and their intrinsic sound installations.O'Brien has recently graduated with MFA from the Slade School of Fine
Art, London. She has exhibited extensively in Ireland and internationally
and has won numerous awards for her work. Recent exhibitions include,
Clo, (Beijing), Young Gods (London), ConTon (London), Exhibition of
Prints (Tokyo), No Man's Land (Cork), Fresh Fruit (Dublin), Dirty Trash
(Drogheda), Print / Estampe (Paris), World Festival of Art on Paper
(Ljubljana). She is an Assistant Lecturer in Fine Art at Crawford
College of Art and is currently based in London.
